the local landscape industry. Lebo Newman has served in leadership positions on the Santa
Rosa Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County, as well

area with the most cutting edge landscape services in the country. With the emphasis on
employee empowerment, with top wages, training and benefits, joined with strong community
and industry involvement and support, Signature Landscapes delivers a hard to match type of
professionalism to the Reno business community and the community at large.

A proud heritage, our lineage...
Signature Landscapes history runs deep in the landscape industry. All of the owners have
been involved in landscaping for over 30 years and have had other successful companies
before coming together to form Signature Landscapes.

Rick Clark owned a landscape company, Vintage Landscaping, in Sonoma County, California
since 1989, which he sold in 1998. It specialized in Multi-Family and Senior Retirement
communities. Having a familiarity with the Truckee Meadows area and desiring to be near family,
Rick relocated to Reno and went to work for a large landscape company. Rick was the Manager
for their Maintenance Division and grew it by 86% while he was there.

In his desire to build a quality and financially stable company, Rick asked former business
associates, Lebo and Merrill Newman, to join him in the new endeavor. Rick and Lebo had
worked together in their early years in landscaping and became friendly competitors who highly
respected each other. The Newman's had owned a large landscape firm, Redwood
Landscaping, that worked in Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, Napa, Marin and Sonoma Counties in
Northern California. Started in 1972, it was one of California's largest and premier landscape
companies. They sold it in 1998 to what became the ServiceMaster Company, TruGreen
LandCare.
Frustrated with the ability and desire of local landscape companies to ethically provide Top
Quality, State of the Art landscape management, they decided to form Signature Landscapes.
Rick and Lebo were the team behind capturing the most prestigious award for Landscape
Management in the State of California, the Ben Slade Award, for their work at a Hewlett Packard
facility. Redwood won two of these awards! Since the sponsor of the Awards competition, the
California Landscape Contractors Association, is the largest organization of landscaping
professionals in the country, it is arguable that the award is the most prestigious in the entire
United States for Landscape Management. Between the two companies, they garnered over 250
Local, State and National Awards for their landscape construction and maintenance, with many in
Xeriscape-low water use landscaping (a must in Nevada!).

Having signed contracts with several of Reno's most prestigious properties and clients such as
Double Diamond Parkways, The Meadows and Double Diamond Professional Center. Signature
Landscapes concentrates on the premier commercial, industrial and multi-family residential sites
who desire a top notch service.
